In October 2023, Dr. Cindy Hung, our mental health therapist and supervisor at the Center for Transformative Healing, successfully defended her dissertation. Her dissertation titled, "Examining the EMDR Flash Technique on Racial Trauma and Incorporating Family Functioning", dives deep into racial trauma healing. This work is not only pivotal but offers profound insight that will undoubtedly contribute to the field of mental health. Join us in celebrating Dr. Hung's immense hard work and dedication. We are beyond proud of her and believe that her findings will bring transformative changes in understanding and healing racial trauma.

In June 2023, Deanna offered a two-day workshop at the International Conference for Couples and Family Relationships at Daybreak University, on children, adolescent and family therapy interventions.

In June 2023, Yi-Hsin (Cindy), Simon and Deanna co-presented, "Race Matching in Predicting Relational Therapy Outcomes: A Machine Learning Approach" at the SAMHSA conference.

In April 2023, Deanna and her research partner, Dr. Saralyn Ruff, presented their research findings to the national A Home Within community. The presentation was entitled, " A Home Within Psychotherapy with Clients with a History of Foster Care". In addition, they just had a new manuscript accepted for publication in the Journal of Public Child Welfare on their findings for how "Resilience" is defined by key stakeholders in child welfare and implications for how it may be reimagined. 

On Nov. 3, 2022, Cindy and Jill presented to the UO community on tools and tips to cope with stress both at and outside of work. They provided information on:

  • Stress--how it shows up in your nervous system, mental health, and daily life

  • Tips & tricks for lowering stress

  • Boundary setting & reducing stress

On Nov. 10, 2022, Deanna, Emily, Jill, Jen, & their colleague Jackie at Madrone gave two presentations at the national systemic family therapy conference (American Association for Marriage and Family Therapists). They had between 200-300 therapists from around the country engaging in these important topics.

  • Deanna, Jill, & Jackie presented on Family Prevention and Intervention for eating disorders.

  • Deanna, Emily, and Jen presented on the unique challenges that neurodivergent families face and clinical intervention strategies that help.

Cindy and co-authors from CTH, Deanna and Simon, recently published her master’s project study on how racial/ethnic therapist-client matching/mismatching predicts relational therapeutic outcomes in the Journal for Systemic Family Therapy.
